Bonk Wins Steeplechase At Jesse Owens Track Classic
Stephanie Bonk won the 3000m steeplechase by more than eight seconds.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue track and field teams began action at the Jesse Owens Track Classic on Friday. Stephanie Bonk was top Boilermaker of the day as the senior won the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

Bonk took the top spot for the Purdue with a time of 10:30.11. Not only was that time the best in the race by over eight seconds, it was also the fourth fastest in school history. Also competing on the women’s side were Kaitlyn Brace and Emily Becker. The duo threw in the javelin. Brace took fifth with a throw of 40.96m (134-04) while Becker threw 26.69m (87-07) which put her in 10th.

Terri Anderson finished fifth for Purdue in the discus. The senior threw 48.28m (158-05) on her second throw. Dana Payonk and Jennifer Hall ran nearly an identical race in the 1500m. Payonk finished ninth with a time of 4:35.39 while Hall finished 10th after crossing the line in 4:35.41. Blair Doney finished 22nd in the race with a time of 4:40.11.

On the men’s side, Dominic DeSantis and Brett Klosterhoff ran in the 5k. DeSantis took 17th with a time of 14:40.41 while Klosterhoff finished 22nd after crossing the finish line in 14:45.20.
