WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Dani Bunch took the top spot in the women's hammer throw for the Purdue track and field team on the first day of the Mike Poehlein Invitational. The sophomore threw a distance of 54.51m (178-10).
The Purdue women had an overall nice performance. Aside from Bunch's first place finish, Emily Leckenby threw 50.51m (165-08) to finish third. Breann Fife had a nice opening throw. The senior threw 48.33m (158-07) which was good enough to qualify for the final round. There, she was unable to land a better distance and finished in ninth place.
On the men's side, Cal Luby was the top finisher for the Old Gold and Black. He finished with a mark of 54.92m (180-02). That mark was also a personal best for him. Luby finished fifth in the event. Jakob Engel also made the final round in the hammer throw. Engel finished with a distance of 51.95m (170-05) which put him in ninth place.
