SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Redshirt freshman Jalil Brewer had the second best shot put throw by a freshman in school history Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Brewer moved into fourth in school history overall after finishing runner-up at the meet.
Brewer threw a personal record by six feet, one inch with a toss of 19.09 meters (62-7.75). His toss is tied for No. 21 in the country this year, including fourth in the Big Ten. His throw is behind only former Boilermaker and Olympian Nedzad Mulabegovic’s freshman record of 64 feet, one inch from 2002.
Sophomore Myia Dorsey was runner-up in the 400-meter dash. She ran a time of 55.80 seconds. Sophomore Alexis Pierre-Antoine was runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. Through prelims and finals, her best time was 8.82 seconds. Junior Christopher Bluish ran a season best in the 800m run. He crossed the line in 1:53.99.
The meet wrapped up the pre-championship schedule for the Boilermakers. The team next heads to the Big Ten Championships. The two-day meet is scheduled for Feb. 23 and 24 in Geneva, Ohio.
