GENEVA, Ohio - The Purdue track and field team wrapped up the first day at the SPIRE Division 1 Indoor Track & Field Invite. The men won the distance medley relay in the team's first appearance of the season.
Scott Lasiter, Nicholas Parks, Kevin Griffith, and Dan Porter finished the DMR in a time of 9:51.91. That time was not only the winning time by more than five seconds over the second place team, but it is also the 18th-best performance in the country this season. That time is more than eight seconds better than Purdue's top time a year ago.
The women's 200m dashers had a nice day as well. Ciana Tabb ran a personal best in the event with a time of 25.18 seconds. Though Tabb finished ninth in the event, her time matched the top Purdue time from a year ago. Aarin Jones also ran her best time in the event. She finished 12th after crossing the finish line in 25.31 seconds. Taylor Morrison also posted a career-best time in the event. Morrison finished 15th with a time of 25.33 which topped her previous best by 0.26 second.
Kari Shoolbraid ran a personal best in the 600m run. Shoolbraid, in her first race of the season, finished 12th with a time of 1:35.16. Andre' Peart finished fourth in the men's 400m dash. Peart finished with a time of 49.33 seconds. Rob McNair finished 16th in the same event. McNair ran his fastest time of the season and the second fastest time of his career after crossing the finish line in 49.69 seconds.
The majority of events for the SPIRE Invite will be completed on Saturday. The meet will resume at 10 a.m. ET with the women's long jump and weight throw. The men's competitions in those events will follow after. Track events are scheduled to being at 10:40 a.m. The meet is scheduled to wrap up around 4:30 p.m. A full recap will be posted to PurdueSports.com following the action.
