Fifty-Nine Purdue Student-Athletes Earn Fall Academic All-Big Ten Recognition

Cross Country (21) & Football (20) lead the way with the most honorees.

2012: Placed second in the 3,000 meter run at the Hoosier Hills (2/11) and the Purdue Invitational (1/7). Competed at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (2/25) in the event and crossed the finish line at 10:07.87, good for a season best.

Did not compete during her initial season at Purdue.

High School:Four-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and track and field at Carmel High School; earned Indiana State High School All-State cross country honors in 2008, after a 12th-place at the state championships; helped team to 2008 Indiana State Cross Country Championship; posted a personal-record 5K cross country time of 18:19; captured Indiana State High School All-State cross country honors in 2006 as well, placing 15th overall; two-time All-America honoree, placing fifth at the 2003 AAU Cross Country Championship and 11th at the 2005 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship.

Personal:Kayla Jane McCurdy was born May 24, 1991, in Carmel, Ind.; is the daughter of Scott and Diane McCurdy; has one brother, Ryan, and a twin sister, Kelly, who is also on the Purdue cross country and track and field teams; enjoys swimming, biking, drawing and shopping; intends to major in art education the college of liberal arts.
