Huge news regarding the future of the Purdue spirit squad came when coach Solberg was given approval to host Purdue's first-ever cheerleading competition. The competition will be called the Boilermaker Bash!

Set to take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012, the Boilermaker Bash! is going to be a great way for the spirit squad program to generate revenue into their fund and also help recruit talented kids, giving them an opportunity to come to Purdue's campus and compete in Mackey Arena!

"The Boilermaker Bash! is an event that I hope will become synonymous with Purdue cheerleading," said coach Solberg. "The revenue we'll be able to generate from this competition will go directly in our camp/clinics fund, which will be used to help buy any extra equipment we may need, and also help us be able to compete every year at nationals."

The Boilermaker Bash! will provide an all-star cheerleading competition in the morning, where a full spring floor will be provided. After the all-star competition has ended and the spring floor has been taken apart and put away, the partner stunt and group stunt competition will follow. After that will be the school/rec competition.

More important than the revenue that will be brought in from this event, will be giving kids from the state of Indiana an opportunity to come to Purdue's campus and compete in the new Mackey Arena.

"There are so many kids in the state of Indiana who grow up as Boilermaker fans," added Solberg. "For some of these kids, to be able to step foot onto Keady Court and compete where so many great Boilermakers before them have competed, it could be a dream come true! Even for some of these kids' parents, this could be their dream come true, to see their son or daughter in Mackey Arena, on Keady Court, competing. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!"
