Fall 'Get Recruited' Clinic and 'Get on Track' cheer competition registration open!

Aug. 20, 2012

Purdue spirit squad coordinator and head cheer coach Steve Solberg is excited to announce two fall activities for cheerleaders to attend here at Purdue!

We will be hosting our first ever fall "Get Recruited" clinic. The date of the clinic is Sunday, September 16, 2012. Our co-ed clinic will run from 9:00-1:00 and our all-girl clinic will run from 2:00-6:00. The purpose of these clinic is to give middle school and high school aged cheerleaders an opportunity to come to Purdue, work with me, my staff and cheerleaders, and give you all an opportunity to learn about Purdue and college cheerleading in general. In addition to working out, there will be a tour of our newly renovated athletic facilities for cheerleaders and family members to see all the new things we get to use, and each clinic will end with a Q&A with coach Solberg about Purdue, the cheerleading program and what it takes to be a college cheerleader (the tour and Q&A is included in the 4-hour time frame). Also, every cheerleader signed up for this event is eligible for a $5 football game ticket for our game against Eastern Michigan or for our volleyball match against Bowling Green! Make it a fun, Purdue filled weekend and see both cheer teams in action before the clinic on Sunday.

In addition to our clinic, we are going to host our first ever Purdue Cheerleading "Get on Track" State Cheer Championships! This competition will take place on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in Mackey Arena! You will be judged using the IASP state cheerleading score sheets, so this competition is open to all Indiana junior high, freshmen, JV and varsity squads. Price is only $150 per team! We hope to help you "get on track" before the state championships and give you a great competition experience using the finest facilities that Purdue athletics has to offer, and get you the feedback to help you prepare for state!

To register for either event, please go to www.conf.purdue.edu/cheer. All necessary paperwork can also be found here.
