Non-JPC Men's Basketball FAQ's

Why are we reallocating the seats?
Once the Mackey Complex Project is complete, many factors will combine to create a completely new manifest of seats in the arena. These changes include additional ADA seating, a new tunnel and premium seats. The sales capacity of the arena will also decrease. Therefore, the only fair way to determine seat locations after the renovation is to completely reallocate Mackey Arena for men's and women's basketball, based on John Purdue Club priority points. Once John Purdue Club members have selected seats the remaining season tickets will be assigned to the general public based on consecutive years of purchase.

How will seat selection be prioritized?
John Purdue Club members, based on priority point totals, will receive first priority on ordering tickets. Non-John Purdue Club members will then receive priority based on years of consecutive season-ticket purchase. Purdue students will be handled as a separate group. Purdue faculty and staff will continue to receive discounted tickets, with assignment of priority according to their place in one of the above groups.

If I want to improve my seating and have access to choose my own seat can I join the John Purdue Club at anytime?
In order to have priority seats and have access to select seats you must join the John Purdue Club by March 31, 2011.

If I join the John Purdue Club will I be rewarded for past season ticket purchases?
Yes, new members will receive three (3) points for each year they purchased season tickets for men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and football. In addition, you will receive 50 bonus points for becoming a John Purdue Club member.

How far am I likely to move when the reallocation takes place?
Several factors will determine where your seats will be located after the renovation. Certainly, every effort will be made to inconvenience our fans as little as possible, while at the same time maintaining a fair process. All current season-ticket holders are likely to move, even if it is just a seat or a row because we will be working with a completely new seating manifest. Personal preferences such as aisle seating, number of stairs to climb or descend, etc., will determine your particular seat location.

When will general public season tickets go on sale, and when will they be allocated?
General public ticket applications will be sent out in mid-May, and must be returned to the Athletic Ticket Office by June 30, 2011, to receive priority. Non-John Purdue Club tickets will be allocated based on consecutive years of purchase.

Will a minimum annual seat contribution to the annual fund for scholarships be required in order to buy a season ticket for basketball?
Yes. The Legacy Fund is the next step for Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics toward the goal of national prominence and the "25/85 Club" while continuing to ensure financial self-sufficiency in future years. This investment will allow us to keep pace with escalating operating costs associated with supporting our 500 student-athletes. The Legacy Fund contribution is an annual per seat obligation in addition to the cost of the ticket and designated John Purdue Club membership requirements for seating.

The Legacy Fund donation for men's basketball will be $100 for each upper arena seat. Lower arena seats will not be available to John Purdue Club members beneath the All-American level and non-John Purdue Club members.

Is the Legacy Fund gift tax deductible since it is not part of the ticket price?
The Legacy Fund gift is 80 percent tax deductible. It will also earn priority points at one (1) point per $100.

Will ticket prices increase in addition to Legacy Fund?
We do not anticipate the prices to increase unless there is an increase in the number of games from the 2010-11 season.

How do we order season tickets as a group or with friends?
All fans requesting to sit together will need to send their season ticket applications in together. The group's priority number will be determined by the person with the fewest consecutive years of purchase.

How is the student seating changing for men's basketball?
Because of the decrease in capacity of Mackey Arena, a small amount of student seating will be lost. The percentage of capacity designated for students is staying the same as previous years. In terms of location, over half of the student section will remain in the same location as past years with the other half of student seats moving across the arena behind the opposite basket. Students will have seating in the lower arena on both ends of the court.

Please note: Changes of the location of student seating was based on feedback from the coaching staff. The total reduction of capacity is 6.4 percent, while the reduction of student seating is 4 percent.

Are there any plans for the arena to have chair back seating throughout the arena?
Not at this time.

Why does the arena need two tunnels?
The second tunnel is being added for safety reasons, and the distance to the new visiting locker room will be significantly closer ensuring no unnecessary advantages.

Are the sections being renumbered in Mackey Arena?
Yes, we are renumbering sections so that when fans enter the main entrance along Northwestern Avenue they are entering at Section 1 and Section 18 making it simpler for fans to navigate Mackey Arena.

Who sits in the reserved seats shown on the seating diagrams for men's and women's basketball?
The reserved seats are for coach and player guests, visitors, sponsors, recruits and letterwinners from the participating team.

Are you expanding ADA capacity to meet new guidelines?
Yes, we are expanding ADA space to remain in compliance.

How do you get ADA accommodations?
Fans interested in ADA seating should contact the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-49-SPORT or sporttix@purdue.edu.

If I'm not an All-American level John Purdue Club member before the March 31, 2011 deadline can I still purchase Men's Basketball premium seats?
Yes, you can call the John Purdue Club to become a member and purchase premium seating at any time while supplies last.

What is the price for men's basketball premium seating?

All men's basketball premium seat purchasers must be an All-American level John Purdue Club member, but can become members at anytime.

Any donor that purchases men's premium seats will have the option to have women's premium seats for the cost of the women's season ticket.
