Grant Thorne was hired as a sports performance assistant in May of 2011. He will oversee the sports performance programs for men's golf, and assist with football, long sprints and distance runners with the track and field teams.
Before joining the staff at Purdue, Thorne was a performance coach for men's rugby team and a sports performance intern for the football program at Stanford University.
He has also served a strength and conditioning in professional football, working as an intern for the New York Jets (2010) and a summer strength and conditioning intern for the San Diego Chargers (2006).
Thorne was employed as a assistant performance coach for the Everton Premiership Soccer Club, served a summer sports performance assistant for Athlete's Performance in Carson, Calif., and was an assistant of performance and monitoring for GPSports Systems in Fyshwick, Australia.
Thorne received a bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University, where he made the Dean's List. He played collegiate football at Long Beach City College and Nicholls State and professionally Los Angeles Avengers in the Arena League. He also played rugby for the Sedgley Park Tigers in Manchester, United Kingdom, and the USA Eagles Rugby Selection.
