Christina Specos joined the Purdue Athletics staff in 2011 and was named associate director of strength & conditioning in 2017. She works directly with volleyball and cross country and oversees cross country and the spirit squad. She also produces the department's monthly newsletter and handles facility scheduling and tours.
Before coming to Purdue, Specos was the head strength & conditioning coach at The Lawrenceville School just outside of Princeton, New Jersey, while also working as the director of sports performance at Lightning Fast Training Systems. While with Lightning Fast, she worked with all athletes, from youth to collegiate and assisted with NFL Pre-Combine Training program. She has pursued advanced training in Pilates mat and equipment, as well as massage therapy. Her advanced training has led to work with private NFL clients in massage therapy.
Specos received a bachelor's degree in athletic training from West Chester University in 2002 and a master's in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania in 2007. Additionally, she attended the Pennsylvania School of Massage Therapy and completed two mentorship programs at Athlete's Performance in Tempe, Arizona, and Pensacola, Florida.
She interned with the Philadelphia Wings professional lacrosse team for two years and consulted with the San Francisco 49ers, where she created a Pilates for Athletes program.
Specos is a NATA certified athletic trainer, NSCA certified strength & conditioning specialist, and NASM performance enhancement specialist. She is a star three Johnny G Spinning Instructor. She is comprehensively trained in the Pilates method through Body Arts and Sciences International (BSI) and is also certified by the Powerhouse Institute (PHI). She is CPR and AED professional rescue certified.
