Boersma Hired As Director Of Sports Medicine

He will start with the Boilermakers on Feb. 15 and ultimately assume the position currently held by Denny Miller, who is retiring June 30.

Ed Howat was promoted to associate athletics director in July 2005. His responsibilities include the entire student services function within the athletics department.

Howat previously served as assistant athletics director (2000-05) and compliance advisor (1998-2000).

Before coming to Purdue, Howat spent 10 years at East Tennessee State University. He spent six years in athletics administration, where he worked in the compliance and academic support services programs for the entire athletics department (1992-98). During his first four years at ETSU, Howat was an assistant men's basketball coach.

Howat graduated from Purdue with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1988 before going to ETSU, where he earned a master's in education in 1990. In 1999, Howat earned his doctorate in higher education administration from ETSU. Howat was a student manager for the Purdue men's basketball team from 1984 to 1988 (head manager his last two years), when the squad won three Big Ten Conference championships.

Ed and his wife, Kim, have two sons, Tyler and Drew.
