He will start with the Boilermakers on Feb. 15 and ultimately assume the position currently held by Denny Miller, who is retiring June 30.
Duane Carlisle was hired the director of sports performance in February of 2011. As the director, Carlisle will serve as the head strength coach for the football team, oversee the sports performance programs for all the Purdue varsity sports and lead the sports performance staff.
He joined Purdue from the San Francisco 49ers, where he served as the head strength and conditioning coach for four years (2008-11). He initially started with the 49ers as an assistant strength and conditioning coach (2005-08) before taking over the program. He served under head coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary in San Francisco.
Carlisle has additionally worked as a speed coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (2000-04) and spent two years as the speed development coordinator for the Tampa Bay Rays (1997-98).
He is the owner and operator of Lightning Fast Training Systems, LLC, which was founded in 1994. Lightning Fast Training Systems has trained more than 10,000 athletes in 20 sports, produced more than 1,000 Division I athletes, and Carlisle's instructional videos on speed training have consistently been top sellers.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland with an emphasis in physical education and economics , where he was also competed for the track and field team. Carlisle is a master's degree candidate in exercise science from Edith Cowan University in Australia.
He served on the Sports Performance Advisory Council with Under Armour (2008-11) and is a member of the NIKE SPARQ Advisory Board.
Carlisle has also served as the head strength and conditioning coach ad LaSalle University and was an assistant track and field coach at Penn State.
Carlisle has spoken for the Perform Better Functional Clinics for over 10 years and has been mentored by Mike Boyle, Johnny Parker, Bill Parcells' former head strength and conditioning coach and three-time Super Bowl winner, and Mike Woicik. His son, Amir, will be a freshman running back at USC this fall.
