Ross Bowsher was hired as a sports performance assistant in May of 2011. He will oversee the sports performance programs for the baseball team and track and field throwers, and will assist with the football program.
He joins the Purdue staff from Butler University, where he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2005 to 2011 under Jim Peal, a 25-year Division I head coaching veteran who has experience coaching four national champion ship teams, four final fours and a Football Championship Subdivision national title at the Citadel. Prior to his tenure at Butler, Ross was the associate director of sports performance at Athlete's Edge in Indianapolis from 2003 to 2005.
Bowsher received an associate's degree in health and human performance from Vincennes University in 2001, before completing the NSCA 18-credit hour certification program in 2004 from IUPUI. In 2008, he earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Indianapolis.
He played baseball at both Vincennes and the University of Tennessee-Martin.
Bowsher has attained elite powerlifting totals in both the 242 and 275 weight classes, and is a member of the International Powerlifting Association and American Powerlifting Federation. He is currently in the top 50 in the world Power Lifting USA rankings in the squat and deadlift, and is in the top 100 in the bench press.
