Wally Becker was hired as a sports performance associate in 2012. He coordinates the sports performance programs for track and field, women's soccer, men's and women's golf, and assists with men's swimming and diving. He also serves as the corrective exercise specialist for the department.
Becker joined Purdue after serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach/professional intern at the University of Evansville. At Evansville, his responsibilities included direct oversight of the strength and conditioning programs for softball, men's and women's golf and tennis, as well as assisting with all other athletic teams.
He received a bachelor's degree in health promotion and wellness from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master's in exercise science from Ball State University. While at Ball State, he served as a volunteer graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning department, where he was in charge of coordinating the strength and conditioning programs for women's soccer, golf and tennis, in addition to assisting with other athletic teams.
Becker has completed strength and conditioning internships at Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
He is a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He also is certified in First Aid and CPR through the American Red Cross.
