Alex Sawyer joined the Purdue sports medicine staff in August of 2017 as an athletic trainer for the men's and women's cross country and track & field teams.
Prior to joining the Boilermakers, Sawyer was an assistant athletic trainer at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for three years. While at SIUE, she had primary responsibility of the women's volleyball and women's basketball teams.
Earlier, Sawyer worked as a physician extender for Chicago Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery.
Sawyer received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, pre-physical therapy from Illinois Wesleyan University. A track athlete for Illinois Wesleyan, she became an NCAA Division III All-American congruent with her team's two national championships. She also has held the school record in the 4x100 meter and distance medley relays. Sawyer received a Master of Athletic Training from Saint Louis University in 2013. Prior to attending graduate school, she worked as a physical therapy technician for the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Originally from Chicago, Sawyer is a certified and licensed athletic trainer for the states of Illinois and Indiana. She also is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
