WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - It is Homecoming weekend at Purdue, and Tracking the Boilermakers is published a day early. The Boilermaker Night Train Parade is Friday night at 8, beginning at the corner of Pierce and State streets and ending at Mackey Arena. The Homecoming king, queen and court will be announced at Saturday's 211° Session in Mackey, which gets under way at 9:49 a.m.

The football team (1-3, 0-1 Big Ten) plays its final non-conference game at noon Saturday against Northern Illinois (3-0) at Ross-Ade Stadium. Five members of the Purdue coaching staff coached against the Huskies last season: Darrell Hazell, Marcus Freeman, Jon Heacock and Jafar Williams at Kent State and Greg Hudson at Florida State. Saturday's game marks just the second non-conference Homecoming game since 1951. The Boilermakers lost to Oregon State in 1967. Purdue's overall Homecoming game record stands at 50-36-4. With the projected attendance at more than 50,000, Purdue will have crowds of at least that many for its first three games for the first time since the 2008 season. A total of 30,808 season tickets were sold this year - including 5,657 new sales - an increase of more than 10 percent over last season.

Streaking Volleyball Opens Big Ten Play

The volleyball team (9-2), ranked 20th nationally and winners of eight straight matches, opens Big Ten Conference play this weekend at Wisconsin on Friday and at No. 9 Minnesota on Sunday. The Boilermakers won the Active Ankle Challenge last weekend - sweeping Syracuse and Florida International and topping Northern Kentucky in four sets - behind tournament Most Valuable Player KiKi Jones. The junior was joined on the all-tournament team by redshirt seniors Rachel Davis and Katie Griffin. Both Wisconsin (11-1) and Minnesota (12-1) have won five straight matches. Purdue has won its last four Big Ten openers and seven of 10 under head coach Dave Shondell.

Soccer Faces Two Champs on the Road

The soccer team (5-3-1, 0-1-0 Big Ten) plays at eighth-ranked Penn State (7-1-1, 1-0-0) tonight and at Ohio State (6-1-2, 0-0-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. Penn State is the 15-time defending Big Ten regular-season champion, while Ohio State won the tournament title a year ago. After this eastern road swing, Purdue plays five of its next seven games at home.

McClintock Named Big Ten Runner of the Week

Sophomore Matthew McClintock was named the Big Ten Men's Runner of the Week after finishing second at the Indiana Intercollegiates last Friday. He beat every runner from intrastate conference rival Indiana. It marks the third time in his young career that McClintock has earned the Big Ten honor.
