WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Week by week, volleyball continues to rise in the national rankings.

This week, the Boilermakers (8-1) are No. 15, up two spots, after defeating ninth-ranked Creighton in four sets Sept. 8 at the Kansas Invitational. Purdue's lone loss is a four-setter to seventh-ranked Kansas on the Jayhawks' home floor.

Purdue leads the nation with a .354 team attack percentage. Senior outside hitter Danielle Cuttino and redshirt junior outside hitter Sherridan Atkinson have provided a potent 1-2 punch, averaging 4.00 and 3.50 kills per set while attacking at .385 and .340 clips, respectively.

The Boilermakers have their final non-conference games this weekend, playing host to the Stacey Clark Classic on Belin Court at Holloway Gymnasium. Purdue faces Miami (Ohio) (7-4) at 7 p.m. ET today and Loyola (Chicago) (1-8) at 1 p.m. Sunday. Loyola and Miami play one another at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Tonight, all Purdue faculty and staff are admitted free, and Sunday there is a pregame Fan Fest beginning at 11 a.m. on Sally & Bob Weist Plaza, adjacent to Holloway.

Purdue has moved up 10 spots since the preseason poll.

Football Bound for Missouri

Resurgent football (1-1), coming off a memorable 44-21 win over Ohio on Sept. 8, plays at Missouri (1-1) at 4 p.m. ET tomorrow. The SEC Network will televise the game.

The Boilermakers and the Tigers have not met since the 1980 Liberty Bowl, a 28-25 Purdue victory in Memphis that marked the last game for Hall of Fame quarterback Mark Herrmann.

Purdue has played at a Southeastern Conference team only once previously when the opponent was a member of the league, a 26-0 loss to Vanderbilt on Oct. 3, 1942. Purdue last played a current SEC team on the road Sept. 26, 1953, a 14-7 loss at Missouri (then in the Big Seven/Eight Conference), and last played a current SEC team in the regular season Sept. 23, 1967, a 24-20 win over Texas A&M (then in the Southwest Conference) at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Junior quarterback David Blough was named one of eight Manning Stars of the Week for his performance against Ohio. He boasted the highest quarterback rating in the country for the week (minimum of five action plays) at 99.4, completing 11 of 13 passes for 235 yards with three touchdowns. Blough became the first Purdue quarterback to throw more touchdown passes than incompletions in a game (minimum 10 attempts) since Kyle Orton went 23 for 26 for 329 yards and five touchdowns against Ball State on Sept. 11, 2004.

Blough has thrown a touchdown pass in 14 consecutive games, the fourth-longest active streak among FBS quarterbacks. He is the first Purdue signal-caller to throw a touchdown pass in at least 14 straight games since Drew Brees had a touchdown pass in 18 straight games in 1998 (all 13 games) and 1999 (first five games).

Williams Big Ten Player of the Week

Redshirt senior Maddy Williams is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after her hat trick gave women's soccer a 3-2 win at Louisville on Sept. 8.

Williams posted the fifth hat trick in program history, tying the Boilermakers' record for goals in a game. The third score of the natural hat trick was her 30th career goal and 10th career game-winner. The Big Ten honor is the second of her career.

The Boilermakers wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-2 record. They opened Big Ten play last night with a 1-0 shutout at Michigan - their first-ever victory in Ann Arbor and first win over the Wolverines since 2009 - and visit Michigan State on Sunday.

Wanamarta Wins Minnesota Invitational

In her first collegiate meet, freshman Inez Wanamarta tied for medalist honors and subsequently was named the Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week.

Wanamarta shot a final-round five-under par 67 at the Minnesota Invitational on Sept. 12. Her three-round total of 10-under par 206 tied the school record for 54 holes as she led the Boilermakers to a third-place finish.

Wanamarta's score equaled Paula Reto's school-record mark set at the 2013 NCAA West Regional, and her final-round 67 was the lowest total by a Purdue freshman since Numa Gulanamitta posted the same mark at the 2008 Indiana Invitational.

Purdue's team score of 10-under 854 was the third-lowest in program history and the best since shooting a 54-hole low 845 at the 2010 Mason Rudolph Championship.

Boudia to Resume Diving

Purdue alum David Boudia announced this week that he would be returning to the sport of diving.

Boudia chose to announce his decision at his alma mater, where he continues to train under Purdue diving coach Adam Soldati. After the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Boudia waited a year to evaluate whether he would return or retire.

Boudia is arguably the most-decorated athlete in Purdue history, with a list of accomplishments that includes four-time Olympic medalist, three-time NCAA Diver of the Year, Big Ten Conference Diver of the Year and Purdue Athlete of the Year, plus the Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year as a junior.

A three-time Olympian, Boudia won a gold medal on 10-meter and a bronze medal in synchronized 10-meter at the 2012 Games in London. Then, he teamed with fellow Boilermaker Steele Johnson to win a silver medal in synchronized 10-meter and won bronze on 10-meter at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janerio. Boudia finished fifth in synchronized 10-meter and 10th in the individual 10-meter competition at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Boudia was a six-time NCAA champion (3-meter and platform as freshman, 1-meter and 3-meter as sophomore and junior), one shy of the all-time record held by Troy Dumais of Texas. Boudia was an eight-time Big Ten champion (sweeping the three events as a freshman and junior, winning 3-meter and platform as a sophomore) and 20-time Big Ten Diver of the Week honoree (seven as a freshman, four as a sophomore and nine as a junior). He is the school record-holder in 1-meter (468.65 points), 3-meter (522.00) and platform (557.90).

Boudia was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
