WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Thirty-nine Purdue student-athletes were honored as Distinguished Scholar Award recipients by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday, including eight who earned perfect 4.0 GPA's in 2012-13. You can see the complete list here. Similar to the Academic All-Big Ten honor, Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution. However, the Distinguished Scholar Award encompasses only student-athletes with a minimum GPA of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year, excluding summer school.

Bradley Named Men's Golf Coach

Rob Bradley, who played for Devon Brouse at North Carolina, was named the Purdue head men's golf coach Wednesday. Brouse remains the Director of Golf Operations and will enter his 16th year as head women's golf coach. Bradley spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at Alabama, where he helped guide the Crimson Tide to a national championship. Prior to Alabama, Bradley enjoyed a successful three-year tenure as an assistant at the University of North Florida (2009-12), during which the Ospreys qualified for the NCAA Regional three times and advanced to the NCAA Championships twice, finishing 14th in 2011 and tied for 12th in 2012. Bradley was a four-year starter for Brouse at North Carolina before embarking on a professional career. During his time in Chapel Hill, he helped lead the Tar Heels to nine tournament victories, two ACC Championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and a third-place finish at the 1993 NCAA Championships.

2016, 2017 Big Ten Football Schedules Announced

On Thursday, the Big Ten Conference announced the league schedules for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The 2016 season marks the first year that the Big Ten will play nine conference games since 1984. In 2016, Purdue will play host to Iowa, Penn State, Northwestern and Wisconsin and will travel to Maryland, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota and Indiana. In 2017, the Boilermakers will welcome Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois and Indiana to Ross-Ade Stadium and will visit Wisconsin, Rutgers, Northwestern and Iowa. Ricardo Allen, Bruce Gaston and Gabe Holmes will join first-year head coach Darrell Hazell as Purdue representatives at the 42nd-annual Big Ten Media Days and the Kickoff Luncheon in Chicago on July 24 and 25 ... Three more Boilermakers have been named to award watch lists: Allen (Bronko Nagurski Trophy - National Defensive Player of the Year and Thorpe Award - best defensive back), Gabe Holmes (Mackey Award - most outstanding tight end) and Cody Webster (Ray Guy Award - top punter).

Purdue Athletics Night with the Indianapolis Indians is Aug. 2

Purdue fans can watch the Indianapolis Indians take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in Triple-A minor league baseball action for just $8.50 on Friday, Aug. 2. Purdue Athletics has established a three-year partnership with Prairie Farms that includes highlighting a "Student-Athlete of the Week" on purduesports.com and on the video boards at Ross-Ade Stadium and Mackey Arena. Look for the first website recognition Monday, July 15.

Coy Blair is one of the top junior throwers in the world based on results during the 2013 calendar year. Blair has the world's best 16-pound junior shot put distance for combined indoor and outdoor seasons, the second-best mark in the world for the outdoor event, and is fourth in the world in the 6-kilogram junior shot put ... Mara Schmidt won the Women's Open singles title at an Intercollegiate Tennis Association summer tournament at the Schwartz Tennis Center from July 6 to 8. Schmidt and Daniela Vidal reached the finals in the Women's Open doubles. Claudia Escribens competed in the singles tournament and made it to the round of 16 while teaming with Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum in doubles and also reaching the round of 16 ... Kishi Sinha was named to the All-American Scholar Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. The New Dehli, India, native is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten performer who graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in honors economics, with concentrations in business management and international business, along with minors in communications and global liberal arts studies ... Former men's basketball player Carl Landry signed a four-year, $26 million deal with the Sacramento Kings. Landry previously played for the Kings during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons ... Former running back Kory Sheets rushed for 178 yards and town touchdowns in the Saskatchewan Roughriders improved to 3-0 with a 39-28 win over the Toronto Argonauts in CFL action Thursday ...
