PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Forty-eight student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-Big Ten selections, the conference announced on Thursday. Fifteen baseball players, nine softball players, six women's tennis player, five men's golfers, four men's tennis players, four men's track and field athletes, four women's track and field athletes and a women's golfer made up the group.
A total of 1,154 spring and at-large sport student athletes were recognized with academic all-conference honors.
The Boilermaker honorees include baseball's Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Joe Haase and Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Year Leah Eber as well as seven All-Big Ten selections. Eber also garnered first team All-America honors indoors after winning the Big Ten long jump title and finishing third in the event at NCAAs.
Cameron Perkins (unanimous first team, baseball), Eric Charles (first team, baseball), Jennifer Rabot (first team, women's tennis), Lance Breedlove (Second Team, baseball), Tyler Duncan (second team, men's golf), Mark Kovacs (second team, men's tennis) and Ashley Courtney (third team, softball) make up the group of All-Big Ten honorees.
Haase and softball's Molly Garst also were spring Academic All-District selections. Track and field/cross country selections announced May 31.
