WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Lilly Fecho of the softball team hails from Carol Stream, Ill., but she wasted no time indoctrinating herself into the Purdue-Indiana rivalry. In the Boilermakers' three-game sweep of the Hoosiers last weekend in Bloomington, the left-handed pitcher appeared in all three games, totaling 14 innings, and allowed merely one run - for a snappy 0.50 ERA - on 11 hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. She started and won Game 2, pitching a complete game, and picked up another victory in relief in Game 3. Fecho was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. The Boilermakers picked up 7-2, 9-1 and 7-3 victories for their first three-game sweep of Indiana since 2009.

Alexander Field Dedication

Alexander Field, the new Purdue baseball stadium, will be formally dedicated prior to the Boilermakers' game against Nebraska tomorrow night. The ceremony is scheduled to begin around 6:35 p.m. and will feature three speakers: athletics director Morgan Burke, fifth-year senior pitcher Robert Ramer and former head coach Dave Alexander, who provided the lead gift for the ballpark that is named in honor on his parents, John and Anna Margaret Ross. The personable "Alex" will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, as well. Game time is 7:05 p.m., and the contest will be streamed live on the BTDN.

Weekend Softball Promotions

Purdue's weekend softball series against Nebraska is chock full of promotions. Friday (4 p.m.) is Blackout Day - all fans are encouraged to wear black. Praise for Hazell

Former quarterback Bob Griese, who is now a member of the Miami Dolphins' radio broadcast crew, had high praise for Purdue head football coach Darrell Hazell at the program's alumni barbecue April 12. Griese told the audience that he asked Dolphins' wide receiver Brian Hartline, who played for Hazell at Ohio State, what he thought of the new Purdue coach. Hartline's response: "Best coach in the Big Ten." Griese repeated the story the following day to the 2013 team.

Kix Surgery Successful

Supervisor of women's basketball operations Terry Kix underwent successful surgery for stomach cancer on April 11 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Six chemotherapy treatments significantly reduced the size of the tumor, and doctors had to remove only one-third of Kix' stomach. Kix appeared at the team's annual awards banquet via FaceTime video chat three days after surgery and declared that she had "kicked the crap out of that tumor." Then, yesterday, she reported more good news that no cancer cells were found anywhere. Kix will remain in New York to undergo post-surgery treatments and is expected to return to West Lafayette around mid-May.

Mollenkopf Center Upgrades

Work has begun on upgrading the football team room on the third floor of the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. Head coach Darrell Hazell's office also has been refurbished, and plans call for new graphics to adorn the hallways. New exterior signage was put up above the main entrance to the building earlier this month.

Directors' Cup Update

At the conclusion of the men's and women's basketball seasons, Purdue ranked 35th among NCAA Division I schools in the Directors' Cup standings with 341 points. A year ago at this time, the Boilermakers were 37th with 360.5 points. Seven of 12 fall and winter teams have qualified for postseason play in 2012-13.
