WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Fifty-seven Purdue student-athletes spanning five sports garnered Winter Academic All-Big Ten honors on Wednesday in an announcement by the league office.

The Boilermaker men's and women's swimming and diving teams boasted 16 and 20 selections, respectively, while the nine wrestlers and six student-athletes from both the men's and women's basketball teams collected accolades.

Purdue's nine wrestling Academic All-Big Ten selections were the most in the league, while the half dozen honorees by the men's basketball team tied for the conference lead. The Boilermaker women's basketball squad tied for second in the conference with its six selections, while men's swimming and diving placed third and women's swimming and diving tied for third in the league standings.

Three of the five student-athletes in the conference to be recognized as having a 4.0 grade point average also hail from Purdue: seniors Christine Inman (women's swimming and diving) and Mark Wohlford (men's basketball), and sophomore Chelsea Jones (women's basketball). Wohlford and Jones are the only two basketball student-athletes in the league to post a 4.0 GPA.

Wednesday's Academic All-Big Ten announcement capped a successful academic winter for Purdue. E'Twaun Moore, a junior on the men's basketball team, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team, while Jones and fellow women's basketball student-athletes Jodi Howell and Brittany Rayburn were recognized as second-team Academic All-District V honorees.

A total of 546 student-athletes were honored by the Big Ten for their work in the classroom this winter. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
