WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue student-athletes continue to outperform the general student body in the classroom.
For the 31st-consecutive semester - 15 and a half years - student-athletes have achieved a higher cumulative grade-point average.
At the conclusion of the 2012 fall semester, student-athletes stood at an even 3.00 GPA vs. 2.99 for the student body. The semester numbers were 3.02 for the student-athletes and 2.89 for the campus.
Of 512 student-athletes, 290 of them (57 percent) had a semester GPA of 3.0 or better. A total of 151 (29 percent) achieved academic honors: 87 Dean's List and Semester Honors, 51 Semester Honors and 13 Dean's List. Some 36 (7 percent) had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Soccer was the top performing team during the fall, with a 3.44 semester GPA. Women's cross country (3.41), volleyball (3.38), women's swimming and diving (3.34) and softball (3.32) rounded out the top five. Thirteen of 18 programs were at 3.0 or better, with two others above 2.9.
Fifteen programs had cumulative GPA's above 2.95 at the conclusion of the fall, led by women's cross country and men's tennis at 3.49.
