Social networking websites have emerged as a preferred channel of communication among high school and college students in the last five years. Purdue University representatives of athletics interest are asked to maintain a sense of propriety when using these social networks. Below are some guidelines to remember when it comes to social networking sites and prospective student-athletes.

Representatives of athletic interests are not permitted to use social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Instagram to contact, encourage to attend or otherwise attempt to correspond with prospective student-athletes.

  • Commenting on photos of a recruit
  • Using the inbox/e-mail feature
  • Instant messaging
  • "@replies"
  • :mentions"
  • Or direct messaging
