Student-Athlete Conduct Statement

The Purdue University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics recognizes the importance and priority of the student-athlete's academic collegiate experience. The athletics department will conduct its programs in a manner designed to protect and enhance the academic, physical, and social development of our student-athletes. This department places its highest values on academic achievement. The student is first; the athlete is second. As a member institution of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA, we expect all Purdue student-athletes to conduct themselves with honesty and sportsman-like behavior at all times in accordance with the rules of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.

Your Academic Responsibilities as a Purdue University Student-Athlete

Purdue University and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics provide you with academic support as you pursue your education. Since it is you who ultimately determines your academic course, you have an obligation to yourself, Purdue University, and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics to act responsibly toward all three of these entities.

• Use the resources of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University to make the most of your education.
• Maintain a high level of motivation and self-discipline.
• Set appropriate academic goals and objectives.
• Develop a time management plan that works for you.
• Develop and refine your study skills.
• Familiarize yourself with course requirements in your major.
• Meet regularly and in a timely manner with your school academic advisor.
• Understand your progress toward your degree.
• Keep your "Plan of Study" up-to-date.
• Understand the status of your eligibility.
• Always check with your athletics academic advisor before making any changes in your course schedule.
• Never drop below 12 credit hours in any regular semester.
• Provide the athletics academic support services staff with required forms and paperwork in a timely manner.
• Attend all scheduled tutor sessions. Failure to do so will result in your being billed for the tutor's time.
• Student-athletes who receive books as part of their grant-in-aid (GIA) need to return their books to the bookstore at the end of each semester. Failure to do so will result in the student-athlete's records being encumbered for the cost of the books.
• GRADUATE!!
